We often reference the old Pit Hours used for Futures contracts as the Old “Ghost Pit Hours”. These hours are sometimes known as "Cash" hours or "Regular Trading Hours", abbreviated as RTH. Some may refer to this time as the "Open Outcry" period, as pit hours were when traders would stand near one another in a "pit" yelling and hand-gesturing orders between one another.
Here’s a list of the old pit hours by market, grouped by starting time. We often see increased volume during these times, even though the trade pits themselves are long gone.
Note that the "start time" for Regular Trading Hours (RTH) for US stocks is 9:30 AM ET.
