Please find the following collection of common questions about the latest version of the BCT Live Trading Room software and their answers:
Are you unable to join a room on the mobile app?
If you have trouble reaching a room, or received a message relating to an Error on Input, or similar, log out of the room then log out of the entire app, and log back in again to see if you can then connect to a room. You may need the PIN code to reenter, though you may see an option to use a saved password, and that may work.
Did we upgrade to a new version of the Live Trading Room Software?
Yes. The older version (2.x) was upgraded to version 3 in late April 2023, and then to version 4 in 2024. Improvements were made in the latest version to improve both the connections for audio and video as well as the quality of the picture and sound.
Is the link the same as the previous link to enter each room? The links have changed, so make sure you use the new link rather than a bookmarked one. The link from the member dashboard's Live Trading Rooms button is the correct one, at https://basecamptrading.com/member-home/live-trading-rooms
Will the old mobile app still work?
Version 2 apps will not work with the Version 3 room. You'll want to download the new Version 3 app to get room broadcasts and alerts. The version 3 app doeswork with Version 4 of the room.
Where can I get the latest version of the Live Trading Room app?
You can get the latest version of the Live Trading Room app by entering either trading room, and clicking on the small smartphone icon in the upper left of the room. Doing so provides links to both the Android and iOS versions of the app, along with your unique pin number you'll need to log into the app. More information about installing the app is available here.
Is there a separate app for the alerts and live trading room broadcasts, as in version 2?
In version 3, one app provides the functionality of both the live trading room broadcasts and the alerts.
I enter my name and email, but it won't let me join the room when clicking the login button
If you have entered your name and email and hitting the Login button doesn't work, it's more than likely that you need to enable cookies for the site. See this knowledge base article on how to enable cookies so you can get into the room. Also, make sure you're using the latest link so you're entering the new rooms, via the Live Trading Rooms button on the member dashboard.
Can I change the layout of the room? There are several ways to change the layout of the room. First, you can split out the broadcast screens into their own windows. This is covered in another FAQ within this article. Another layout change can be done where the chat window can be moved to a different position. For example, you could locate the chat window beneath the broadcast window, or to the right of the broadcast window. This is set by checking the options under General Settings (which you can find when you click on the Options "hamburger" menu at top left). Uncheck both options to go back to the standard layout. You can see the layout controls that are in general settings at the bottom of this image:
Is the trading room functional under the Opera or Brave browser?
Yes - it should work on modern versions of either of these browsers. Be sure to update your browser to the latest version, and make sure that there are no HTML5 ad blockers running if you have any trouble loading the screen. Any VPN should also be disabled if you have trouble getting the video or sound to work.
Where is the "keep messages scrolled to the bottom" feature?
You can find the Always Scroll to Bottom switch to keep messages scrolled to the latest message in the expanded preferences. You'll find settings under the Hamburger option menu (several horizontal lines) at the upper left corner of the room once you're in the room. Once the options menu expands, click on General Settings, and look through the various settings tabs to find the scrolling setting (under the Chat Settings tab) and other useful settings.
How do I close the expanded Options Settings menu?
Close the expanded settings by clicking on the yellow arrow at the upper left (where the options menu originally existed). The arrow appears as follows:
I enter my name and email, but it's asking for a password. Is that correct?
Trading Room viewers do not need a password to enter the room. If you're prompted for a password (without clicking the "Have a password?" link), then it's more than likely that you need to enable cookies for the site. See this knowledge base article on how to enable cookies so you can get into the room.
Do I need a password to enter the room?
Do not click the "Have a password? Click here" option at the login prompt. Just provide your Name (or nickname) and email, and hit the login button to access the room. Your authentication into the BCT Website provides the access you need without entering an additional password. If you're prompted for a password (without clicking the "Have a password?" link), then it's more than likely that you need to enable cookies for the site. See this knowledge base article on how to enable cookies so you can get into the room.
What are the available options when entering the trading room?
Here's an image of the login prompt and some hints at what each part provides:
How do I add a picture to appear beside my name in chat?
Version 3 allows users to upload a picture to appear next to their name without needing to create a Gravatar. You'll find the option to upload an image on the same page where you log into the room, where you enter your nickname. Click on the gear next to the photo placeholder and choose to upload an image. This image will appear beside every chat message you enter.
How do I remove the profile photo I uploaded?
To remove a picture you uploaded, bring up the room entry login screen, and click the gear icon next ot the image, and the following button appears. Click on the button to remove the image.
How do I change the picture I uploaded?
To change the image you uploaded, first remove the old image (instructions above) and then add a new image as you did the first time.
How can I remove my last name from appearing in chat?
The name you entered when logging into the room is what appears as your chat name. To remove your last name from the chat window, just make sure your last name isn't in the Name field as you enter the live trading room. See the image of the login screen earlier in this article to see an image of where the Name field appears.
How do I initiate a private chat with another attendee?
If you would like to have a private chat with another room attendee, you'll need to know the Name field, set by the person entering the room. The easiest way to get another person's name is to have that person post something to the room. Many times, people say "Good Morning" at the start of the room, and this is a great way to get your name in a post so others can private chat with you. Once you see a post from a person you want to private chat with, click on the 3 vertical dots to the left of that person's name, which brings up a menu with a Private Chat option. Select that option to begin a private chat. An example of this selection is shown below, where the 3 dots and the menu choice are highlighted in red.
The broadcast is too small for my liking. Can I magnify the screen to make the content easier to see?
If you would prefer to see Thomas' screen full-size, double-click the broadcast image to make it full-screen. Double-click it again (or hit your keyboard's ESC key) to return to the view that shows the borders, chat window, etc.
Want to zoom in further, or see the chat and other controls? You can zoom in on the standard view's broadcasted image using the magnifying glass in the upper right - click it multiple times to zoom in further if needed, then pan with your mouse. You'll see a restore icon appear once in magified mode; click that to return to unzoomed mode.
Your broadcast image size is also impacted by the width of the chat column. Position your cursor on the right edge of the chat window to activate the control to adjust its width (two vertical lines with outward-pointing arrows). A smaller chat column creates a larger broadcast screen. You may find that setting the chat width so the broadcast size is maximized is best.
Can I make the Chat text size larger or change the colors?
Yes. To change the chat text attributes, click on the option menu at the upper left within the room (the three horizontal lines to the left of the person icon), and from the expanded settings, choose General Settings.
In the General Settings window that appears, ensure you're on the App Settings tab, and scroll down to find the Colors & Size section. You can adjust the text color, your username color, etc., including the Text Size. The default Text Size is 13. Try a larger number to make the text bigger. Click the Save Changes button in that section to confirm your changes and see how it appears.
How can I mute the room so the presenter's voice is no longer heard?
Clicking the Mute button (under the speaker icon) is intended to mute all sound from the room. You can selectively enable several different sounds, such as the alert sound, etc. To mute the room speaker's audio and still get other sounds, find the button that includes the speaker's name and uncheck it to mute that speaker. Check it again to unmute the speaker.
Where is the room drive?
The room drive is no longer in a separate folder. It's been moved to the Files tab that appears above the broadcast screen, as shown in the image below. After clicking on the Files tab, you'll see folder names for Files, Images, and Sounds. Clicking on these shows you the contents of each of those folders. The currently-selected folders are shown in green. Click on the Screens button to go back to the broadcast screen(s).
How can I make the broadcast screen or chat area bigger?
You can double-click on the broadcast image to make it full-screen. You can also expand the broadcast screen into a window that can be resized or placed on another monitor, separate from the chat. To create a separate window, click on the gear in the window's tab just above the broadcast screen, and choose Detach screen to a new window. You can then position that window on a new screen at a larger size and still see chats on the main window. The presenter can broadcast more than one screen, so you may have the option to split out each broadcasted screen should there be multiple ones.
How can I upload an image in chat?
Trading room attendees cannot upload an image in chat. A link can be used to reference an image uploaded to a web-based tool like Jing (TechSmith Image Capture).
How can I get live subtitles to show?
Live subtitles are now available and should be enabled by default. The option to turn them on or off is within the menu that appears when you select the speaker icon. You may not see all the options on this menu, but you should see the one outlined in red in this screen capture to toggle them on. If you have the box checked, and the room host is speaking and you're not seeing subtitles beneath the room image, then it's likely that no one is able to see them at that time, as they're probably not getting generated. This should eventually get resolved automatically if this occurs.
Also, make sure that you've enabled the Closed Captions overlay. You can find that under the General Settings / App Settings dialog, as shown below. Click the circle in front of the ENABLED option to toggle it. For information on how to open the General Settings, see the section above titled "Can I make the Chat text size larger or change the colors?"
How do I stop alert sounds from the rooms? If you want to stop alerts that are coming from the mobile app, you should be able to unsubscribe to alerts from the app. From within the app, you'll see a list of rooms that you've subscribed to. You may need to click on the Rooms button at the bottom of the display to see this list. Uncheck the Show Alerts checkbox for the room(s) you no longer want alerts from, as shown here:
If it's from the browser on your computer, you can click the speaker icon at the upper right within the live trading room, and uncheck the Alert sound on checkbox within the pop-up dialog that appears, as shown here. You may need to check the NTA sound on to prevent the Non-Trade Alert sound from occurring. The QA sound on button may also be related to alerts.
What if I can't get audio or video from the Live Trading Room?
If you've had audio before in the V3 room, then try reloading the room to get audio or video back. Try using CTRL+F5 (hold down control key and hit the F5 function key) to do a full refresh of the browser page from the server.
If you're not able to reach the login prompt of the room, or if you get a login prompt for a password or without the banner graphics of the room showing the room's name, it's more than likely that you haven't enabled 3rd-party cookies for the site. Use this knowledgebase article for more information on how to allow cookies. If you're not able to get audio or video to appear, here are a few additional things to check when not able to join the live trading room
VPN (Virtual Private Network) is on and is restricting access
A Firewall is restricting access
An HTML5 ad blocker is blocking the audio/video
Mac users using a browser other than Safari
If comfortable doing so, try disabling these features one by one to see if any are the cause. If you find which of these is preventing the audio / video from appearing, then you may want to take steps to whitelist or allow protradingroom.com and basecamptrading.com in your software for that type of restriction.
Additional things to try if the room is not working
Here's a list of things to try when experiencing a non-working live trading room broadcast. Some of these may be repeated above, but it helps to have a full list
If you use a PC rather than a Mac, try a different browser; however, note that some browsers share the same underlying technology. For example, Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera all use Chromium as the underlying technology. An alternative to Chrome would be Firefox. By using a fundamentally different browser, you can confirm it's not caused by the browser itself. Chrome is the preferred browser for the room, per the trading room provider. If you use a Mac, the latest version of the Safari browser should work, but you're welcome to try Chrome or another browser if Safari isn't working.
Perform a full refresh from the server with CTRL+F5 to force the full reload
Confirm that you do not have a firewall blocking your access
Verify that you're not having connectivity issues more broadly (i.e., are you having this connectivity issue with any other site, such as playing another video or streaming content)
Assure that you're not using any ad blockers or tracking checkers like Ghostery, Malwarebytes, etc. on the live trading room broadcast site. If you are using something like this, consider granting the site an exception to prevent blocking it. Many allow you to temporarily allow access, where you can reload the page and see if it then works correctly/
Reboot your computer if you haven't done so and try again. Similarly, reboot your router/modem.
For those with managed networks, the UDP port range is: 1024-65000, and the domain is: *.protradingroom.com
If none of these are working, consider visiting the protradingroom.com website, and click the gray Customer Service chat box at the bottom right of the screen to see if they have any additional suggestions that may help.
If you hear an echo
If you hear an echo, and other users aren't also noting an echo (i.e. others are posting about an echo in chat), then it's likely that you've loaded the trading room more than once. See if you have another page with the room open, and if so, close any duplicates to stop the echo.
