If you're experiencing problems with TradeStation opening your desktops after logging into the desktop platform, it may be caused by recent Microsoft Windows updates. In our testing, TradeStation desktop allows you to log in, but isn't responsive after opening part of a single desktop, and eventually errors our with a send-error-to-tradestation dialog.
We contacted TradeStation and learned that the recent updates provided by Microsoft around May 12 and 13 create this problem. These updates can be uninstalled, allowing TradeStation to work normally again until TradeStation releases an update to their desktop to address problems caused by these updates. TradeStation support suggested waiting a couple of weeks before applying any new updates, aside from security updates.
The updates to be removed are KB5083631 and KB5089549, and optionally KB5083769 and KB5082417, the latter two to try if removing the first two doesn't work. The KB5083769 update may prevent TradeStation from updating, and you do want to get the forthcoming update so the other Windows updates can proceed.
To remove updates installed by Windows, open Windows Update, select Update History, scroll down, select Uninstall Updates, and select the updates listed above by KB number, removing them one at a time, starting with the first and second ones. You will likely need to restart your computer (which does a few restarts as part of the removal) to complete each update before continuing with the next.
You can pause updates for a week or longer by selecting the Pause updates option under the Windows Update settings dialog. Watch for an update from TradeStation that addresses this issue, after which you can resume Windows Updates again. Important: The decision to pause updates may temporarily expose your system to newly addressed malicious code, so use the pause at your own risk. A better approach than pausing all updates would be to be selective about which updates are applied and avoid the updates listed above. If you accidentally pause updates for longer than you'd like, tap the Resume updates button and set the pause timer again.
