If you're having difficulty discerning between the colors on Value Bars, there are a few things to try to make them easier to recognize. These approaches can be applied to the ValueCharts indicator as well. A similar approach can be used with other platforms, such as NinjaTrader.
First method:
This is about increasing the width of the coloring of the bars. To do this, choose Format/Indicator to open up the ValueBars settings, and go to the STYLE tab. There, select each of the plots that draw the ValueBars colors, from VOpen to VLow5, and increase the WEIGHT. This makes the colors thicker. The following image shows VOpen set to Weight 2. Repeat that for each plot down to VLow5 on the list - there are 14 plots to update.
Setting each to weight #2 rather than 1 changes it from this:
to this:
You could try setting them to weight 3 if you'd like, which would make them even thicker. Though if you make them too thick, they might start to touch when you zoom out in time, but feel free to adjust it as you'd like.
Another variation of thickness adjustments is to increase the weight of the yellow and red portions of the bars and not the green parts, making it easier to tell them apart by thickness as well. You can experiment which plots to NOT increase the width for. Setting VOpen, VHigh, Vlow, VClose, VHigh3, and VLow3 results in the following appearance:
Note that if these revised settings work, you can set this as the "default" for when you next add it to a chart. To do that, once you have the settings in place, click on the Default button, and that will allow you to make the revised thickness the default setting. If at some point you want to restore to the original setting, download the indicator from the BCT website and install it on top of the existing indicator. If you don't want to adjust the settings individually for all of your existing charts, once you have the new defaults in place you can remove and then re-add the ValueBars indicator to each chart. That's faster than manually modifying all the plots of each. If you use the same set of indicators across several charts, you could also use an Analysis Group with the new settings to apply it across the charts that share the same indicator settings.
