If you find that you're having trouble logging into thinkorswim desktop, especially if you've previously logged in, then you may need to clear the cache. The cache is saved temporary content from the last times you used the app to speed it up a bit when logging in. Sometimes this cache can have corrupted data, and clearing it can cause data to be freshly downloaded, and it can help resolve some issues.
One thing to check first, however, is that you have the correct credentials. You can test this by checking if your username and password allow you to log into the Schwab site. If not, then verify that you have the correct credentials. If you're able to log into Schwab.com and you use the same credentials for thinkorswim, then it should allow you in.
Schwab has suggested that you uncheck the Remember Login ID checkbox and reenter your login ID if you are having trouble logging in. You can see this checkbox in the image, below.
To clear the cache, launch the thinkorswim desktop, then at the login prompt, click on the gear that's at the bottom left of the login dialog box, just to the left of where you choose between Live and paper trading. It's shown here, outlined in red:
In the dialog that pops up, look for the clear cache and restart button, which will apparently do exactly that. It's shown outlined in red in the following image. Once thinkorswim restarts, the temporary data it was caching will be replaced with fresh data, and could help with resolving the login issues. If this doesn't work, then contact thinkorswim support for further help.
